With visitation down a whopping 64% from a year ago, Las Vegas is more than ready to reopen for business. Some of the largest properties on the Strip are changing hands, including this week’s sale of The Venetian, The Palazzo, and Sands Expo Center. And while Vegas commands the throne for all-in nightlife and entertainment, the casino business stretches across the entire state of Nevada, attracting more than 146,000 transplants every year. With a population of 3+ million and all those hotels, casinos, neon, shows, and machines, you can bet Nevada is a gigantic energy consumer—especially in the form of natural gas. REC today is following the latest news out of Nevada and its plans to build a 70-mile gas pipeline from Laughlin to Henderson—two booming communities adding more resorts and housing developments. The project will include replacing out-of-code midstream infrastructure and will connect to pressure limiting stations operated by utility Southwest Gas. But it won’t be a quick fix. Estimates are 5-10 years, leaving plenty of time to hit a jackpot.
